Who can apply?

Individuals, representative organisations or employers affected by redundancies and wishing to ensure that the redundant workers benefit from the EGF support should get in touch with the EGF Contact Person for their Member State.

Objectives and activities

Objective: The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund provides support to people losing their jobs as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns due to globalisation, e.g. when a large company shuts down or production is moved outside the EU, or as a result of the global economic and financial crisis.

Activities: The EGF can co-finance projects including measures such as:

  • help with looking for a job, careers advice, education, training and re-training, mentoring and coaching, entrepreneurship and business creation.
  • It can also provide training allowances, mobility/relocation allowances, subsistence allowances or similar support.
  • The EGF provides workers with one-off individual support that is limited in time.
  • "The Commission and the Member States shall ensure that equality between men and women and the integration of the gender perspective are an integral part of, and are promoted during, the various stages of the implementation of the financial contribution from the EGF."

Type and level of funding

The EGF has a maximum annual budget of EUR 150 million for the period 2014-2020. Financial assistance is provided in the form of financial contribution and grants.
