Who can apply?

IDF grants may be used as leverage to enable clients to develop an idea sufficiently to seek grants from other sources.

Objectives and activities

Objective: The IDF was designed to finance quick, action-oriented, discrete, generally innovative, upstream capacity-building activities that are identified during (and closely linked to) the Bank's policy dialogue and economic and sector work.

Activities:  These themes will serve as the foundation for supporting the Bank's capacity building work in the areas receiving operational emphasis:

  • governance and anticorruption
  • engagement with civil society organizations
  • use of country systems
  • program-for-results (P4R) financing, and
  • knowledge platforms.

Type and level of funding

2014: contribution of US$9 500 000 000. Financial assistance is provided in the form of grants.
