Who can apply?

Managing Authorities of Structural Funds programmes, Regional/local authorities, Agencies, research institutes, thematic and non-profit organisations.

Objectives and activities

Objective: The Interreg Europe programme aims to improve the implementation of regional development policies and programmes, in particular programmes for Investment for Growth and Jobs and European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) programmes.

Activities: Four topics were selected in order to make the best use of limited funds:

  • Research and innovation;
  • SME competitiveness;
  • Low-carbon economy; and
  • Environment and resource efficiency.

Type of tourism-related actions eligible for funding:

  • Rail link project between Austria and Italy promotes transnational, sustainable and eco-friendly mobility.

Type and level of funding

Interreg has a budget of €10.1 billion for 2014-2020 (financed by ERDF, IPA, ENI, URBACT III, …). Financial assistance is provided in the form of co-financing and grants.
