Objectives and activities

to support sustainable development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and contribute to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world. It is managed by development specialists in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. To deliver its mission, the aid programme focuses on stimulating sustainable economic development. Tourism is listed as key sub-sector (under economic development), one of 3 drivers of growth (other 2 being agriculture and fisheries), with the objective: Increased revenue, income and employment from sustainable tourism; Priorities within tourism development: Improving leadership,strategy and sector coordination, Supporting quality accomodation and activities, Improving conservation and environmental management, Improving the tourism skilset, Raising market awareness, Linking supply of local goods and services to the tourism sector, Investing in data collection and research; Within Corss-cutting issues, and sub-section "Environment", tourism is included in intervention to enhance natural and cultural assets for tourism development.
