The URBACT programme is the European Territorial Cooperation programme aiming to foster sustainable integrated urban development in cities across Europe. The programme is administered by the European Commission, DG Regional Policy.

Who can apply?

URBACT actually includes cities, municipalities, towns (without limit of size), infra-municipal tiers of government, metropolitan authorities, organized agglomerations, local agencies; provincial, regional and national authorities; universities and research centers. All beneficiaries shall be public or public equivalent bodies.

Objectives and activities

Objective: URBACT’s mission is to enable cities to work together and develop integrated solutions to common urban challenges, by networking, learning from one another’s experiences, drawing lessons and identifying good practices to improve urban policies, including culture and heritage.

Type of tourism-related actions eligible for funding:

  • Accommodating innovation: temporary use and the access to vacant urban properties in Europe.

Type and level of funding

UBRACT III is an instrument of the Cohesion Policy, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The total budget eligible budget of URBACT III is €96,3 million for 2014-2020. Financial assistance is provided in the form of grants.
